Our Mission

The mission of North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers is simple. We aim to provide a central point of community and resources for homeschoolers of color in North Carolina. We believe that it is important for home schooled African-American children to socialize with other children who are like them in order to create a community atmosphere and lasting friendships.

Furthermore, NCAA Homeschoolers online will be a community building resource for parents and guardians of home schooled children to share experiences, teaching styles and curricula.

Be sure to visit our regional networking board to find homeschoolers in your local area. Also, join our statewide discussion board to chime in on home schooling ideas and topics of interest

About Us

ph03414i.jpg

North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers was created in the Fall of 2002 by a husband and wife team, Michael and Jennifer James. The Jameses are the proud parents of two daughters, 5 and 2. Although their daughters are not age eligible to be recognized by the state as home schooled children, Michael and Jennifer believe that education begins from day one. After an extensive and unsuccessful search for a cumulative network of African-American homeschoolers in North Carolina, Michael and Jennifer decided to create one place for families to meet, discuss and network with other parents who share the same educational goals.

In January 2003, Michael and Jennifer also created the National African-American Homeschoolers Alliance in response to the number of families joining their North Carolina organization.

Support

North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers does not provide or facilitate local support groups. Rather, we encourage families to begin their own support groups on the local level. NCAAH will not have affiliate chapters as we believe in independent, autonomous home school support groups.

We realize that all families are different and that is why we will not impose our views onto local chapters. For example, NCAAH is a nonsectarian organization. We realize, however, that there are families out there who would prefer a Christian based support group. We encourage creativity as well as a willingness by parents to start local groups.

If you begin a home schooling support group, please e-mail that information to us and we will add it to our website.
